Tahu Isi (Deep Fried Tofu)


150 gr ground chicken

2 carrots, peeled and shredded

150 gr bean sprouts

2 stalks of green onion, thinly sliced

2 cloves of garlic (finely chopped)

1/2 medium onion (finely chopped)

4 tbs of water

1 pack of deep fried tofu (usually there's about 9 pcs in a pack)

Cooking oil for stir fry and deep fry

Batter for deep fry

cup rice flour Tepung Beras

cup all purpose flour

4 cloves garlic (finely chopped)

salt and pepper to taste

Water about cup to cup

1 egg


Heat oil in a medium pan. Add onion and stir fried until golden brown. Add in garlic and continue to stir until fragrant.

Add ground chicken and cook about 3 to 4 minutes until starting to brown, stirring constantly. Add carrots, green onions, salt and pepper and cook 1 minute. Add bean sprout and water and cook until vegetables are crisp-tender.

Turn off the heat and set aside to cool.

Prepare the tofu by slicing on one side of the tofu to make an opening for the filling. Stuff each tofu generously with the filling.

Prepare the batter by mixing all the ingredients and stir until mix evenly.

Heat oil in a heavy fry pan. Dip the stuffed tofu in the batter. Deep fry tofu until golden brown. Drain on a rack over a sheet pan. Serve immediately with fresh chili.
